Fairy Tail:
Magic Times
Magic Times
Over 600 years ago, the three Elder races, Gods, Dragons and Demons were the Kings of the World. With the weaker races being food to the Dragons, slaves to the Demons and worshipers to the Gods. These mighty races ruled the world together, freely dominating the lands. The Lesser Races who were more adaptable with magic than the Elder Races ultimately lacked the sheer power the Elder Races held and were ultimately powerless against them.
However, three like minded individuals from each Elder Race questioned their subjugation of the weaker races. The three proposed a world were the gods, demons, dragons, and the Lesser Races could coexist in peace. A war brewed between the elders who supported Elder/Lesser race coexistence, and those who were against the ideology ensued. The war spread chaos through the lands, as the magical energies released shook the world down to its foundations. Islands were ripped apart and returned to the sea floor, century dormant volcanoes destroyed entire civilizations and tsunamis flooded once beautiful coastlines as the air became saturated with ethernano.
The Lesser Race supporting Elders devised a cunning plan. They provided some Mages of the Lesser Races with Magic that allowed them to slay an Elder, giving rise to the fearful Slayer Mages. As the slayers started turning the tides of battle, the Lesser Races, who had more ingenuity when it came to magic sought for better ways to combat their enemy. This is where the lesser race who were more adaptive won out. Through their research and creation of new magic they were able to find a way to unlock the gates to the Celestial world and by building a bond and pact with the Celestial Spirits that called the place home they were able to become Celestial Spirit Mages.
These Spirits and the Mages who summoned them were powerful in their own right and finally began to tip the war in favor of those that favored integration. With new forms of magic, the help of the Elder Races as well as the Celestial Spirits they were able to force the Elder Races that favored segregation to call for a truce, ultimately claiming victory. The winning side would write up a treaty that would give all races an equal footing in Earthland.
The signing of the treaty was a momentous occasion and would become known as The Great Mage Festival. Even the Celestial spirits, whom were also added into the contract, came to see the signing. The Elder Races were prideful but they stuck to their word and with most of them still carrying disdain in their heart for the lesser races. It was during this time that the Lesser Races begun to flourish establishing cities and countries of their own as well as forming what were being called Mage Guilds.
These were exactly what they sounded like a conglomerate of like-minded Mages who decided to come together for a common goal. This was also around the time that the Magic Council came to be as well and was headed by two siblings, Alakitasia who was the older sister and Ishgar her younger brother. Both were the most powerful Mages of the Lesser Races at the time and had fought and even killed many of the Elder Races. With the Elder races now bound by treaties to no longer dictate the lesser races, the latter appointed Alakitasia and Ishgar to govern the newly integrated magical world.
Though, peace was short lived as the two siblings and most powerful Mages disagreed on how to steer the world into the next generation. Alakitasia was more militaristic than her younger brother wanted to bolster the lesser race's might while Ishgar considered knowledge and magical advancement as the proper way to rule. Eventually their inability to find common ground caused a spilt in the Magic Council and this spilt went on to create what is now known as the Guild Wars. Splitting the sibling 's Mage Guilds pretty much down the middle the sides had been chosen and as members of the Elder Races had joined and created Mage Guilds as well it looked to be another war to ravage Earthland only fifty years after the Great Race War.
The Great Race war and subjugation of the lesser race were indeed dark times, however the Guild Wars were on a totally different level. With the lesser races gaining power that rivaled the Elder Races, the entire world would see the effects warring guilds would have on the everyone. Like the Great Race War, the energies released effected the entire world, though this time it changed the very landscape of the countries the battles were fought in. Beautiful rain forest became desolate deserts while continental paradises were transformed into freezing tundras.
Alakitasia being the more militant of the two excelled in battle, even with Ishgar having more guilds and more Mages, Alakitasia was winning. In response Ishgar would utilize his greatest asset which was knowledge. The younger brother knew that he wouldn't be able to keep up his crusade against his sister, who had even managed to persuade some of the more frightening Elders to join her cause. This ultimately ensured Alakitasia would win, even with the help of Ishgar's own Elder race allies. Desperate and at his wits end, Ishgar ordered his top researchers to develop a magic that would equal Alakitasia 's bloodthirsty might.
With the greatest magical minds under his control Ishgar succeeded in creating a weapon of mass destruction. Though he was a pacifist by nature, the younger brother knew all to well how far his sister would take things. As such Ishgar created the Satellite Square: Etherion as a way to ensure peace through mutual destruction. Because of Ishgar's pacifist nature the Mages who operated Etherion was ordered to religiously pronounce the words "Thus we pray" before the firing, collecting their thoughts in prayer and hoping that the ultimate weapon doesn't wreak havoc on innocent lives. Ishgar knew the power and risk behind such magic but reluctantly fired the weapon during a decisive battle that would become known as The Great Cull. The weapons blast wiped out the entire fighting force of both sides, as the destructive magic had no equal and no one strong enough to survive it.
Ultimately, Etherion became Ishgar's most powerful and ultimate weapon, capable of targeting anything on the surface with a devastating beam on a huge scale. This would lead his sister to call for a cease fire as nothing she threw at her brother would survive the unimaginable power of the Etherion. Eventually Alakitasia died of natural causes during the long cease fire period. Upon her death her son took over who was much more underhanded than his mother and assassinated Ishgar. His soldiers who like his mother were highly honorable warriors and disagreed with his methods. As a result they betrayed him and gave him to the Ishgar army.
After eliminating the leader that brought dishonor to their cause and electing a new leader named Alvarez, they would trade the killer of Ishgar for their freedom and move to the unexplored continent to the west to govern themselves and make their own country. The continent was named after their first leader Alakitasia and the empire that followed after Alverez. After creating the new country Alverez would become the emperor who took the title Spriggan, which is would become the title held for each successive Emperor to date.
The days of tension between the Races had completely died out with only the longest living elders remembering the dark times. However, the Treaty signed by all the races had withstood the ravages of time and would become known as the 600 Year Festival which is celebrated throughout the world. Alakitasia and Ishgar had also faded into history with most of their tales becoming bedtime stories for up and coming young mages. Over the years the actual truth behind the two siblings warped into a more positive tale, with the two siblings both battling for the greater good and ultimately creating two "Sibling" countries.
The two countries would become known as Alvarez and Ishgar and would continue to live on for centuries. To honor both founder's "sibling rivalry" and their faux sense of conviviality the two countries started hosting an annual competition known as the Grand Magic Games to determine the strongest mage in the world. Now 600 years after the Great Race War, the world has experienced many periods of peace and enmity though remained relatively peaceful. With the darkest times lost to faded memories, the world of magic began to flourish. Many guilds from lawful and peace loving to illegal and bloodthirsty known as dark guilds would be founded across the world.
